ABOUT
US & THE AREA
Scarr Head is a small working farm at the foot of the Coniston mountains and just 2 miles South of Coniston village, where there is a good range of shops, hotels and restaurants.
Hawkshead, Ambleside, Bowness &
Windermere are easily accessible by car but if it’s peace and quiet you are looking for we
are the perfect base for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside, either on foot, by car or even on horseback – pony
trekking at Crook Barn Stables – 500 yards or Spoon Hall, Coniston.
Torver has two village pubs. Both have restaurant facilities and are within 10
minutes walking distance of the farm.
Coniston lake can be reached by footpath in approximately 30 minutes and you can
walk into Coniston along the lakeshore or catch the local ferry across the lake to Brantwood – home of John Ruskin.
There are also a number of spectacular
walks straight out of the farmyard, such as Walna Scarr, Coniston “Old Man” and a
lower level walk to Beacon Tarn. The West Cumbrian coast holds many jewels
including Muncaster Castle and the narrow guage railway which runs from Ravenglass to Eskdale.
